Why LGBTQ+ Travelers Deserve Better Than "Safe Enough"
June is here—and with it, Pride flags, rainbow-colored everything, and a long list of brands racing to show their support. But for those of us in the LGBTQ+ community, Pride isn’t just a vibe. It’s a reminder that visibility matters. That safety isn’t a given. And that travel—something that should be joyful and affirming—often comes with an extra layer of decision-making when you don’t fit into the mold of a “traditional” traveler.
As a queer travel advisor, this is personal.
I don’t just plan trips—I build them around real safety, real joy, and real celebration for LGBTQ+ travelers. Because you deserve more than “safe enough.” You deserve a trip where you can be fully, unapologetically yourself.
🌍 I’ve Been There, and I’ve Planned That
Before I ever booked a trip for a client, I booked them for myself. I’ve been the queer couple nervously checking into a hotel, unsure how we’d be received. I’ve wandered into bars where the vibe changed real fast. I’ve also stayed at places where we were greeted with smiles, treated like any other couple, and left with zero stress and a ton of memories.
That experience? It changed how I plan for my clients.
When LGBTQ+ travelers reach out to me, I hear the same concerns over and over:
“We’re not sure where we’ll feel safe.”
“We want to travel together but avoid awkward or unsafe situations.”
“Are there any resorts or cruises that are actually queer-friendly?”
The answer is yes. But you won’t always find them on the first page of Google. That’s where I come in.
🧳 What I Look for When I Build an LGBTQ+ Trip
When I plan trips for LGBTQ+ clients, I go way beyond location. I look for:
True inclusion, not just lip service – Resorts and vendors that go beyond “we don’t discriminate” and actually celebrate queer travelers.
Local laws + social climate – There are beautiful, culturally rich destinations where being queer is still criminalized. I won’t send you there unless you fully understand the risks and feel good about going.
Trusted partners on the ground – I work with local guides and DMCs I trust to be respectful, safe, and affirming.
Cruise lines and group tours where you’re not the only one – Community makes a difference. You shouldn’t have to wonder if you’re welcome. You should get to relax and have fun.
✈️ Destination Ideas for LGBTQ+ Travelers (That I Actually Recommend)
Amsterdam – Incredibly inclusive, fun, and rich in culture and nightlife.
Portugal – Lisbon and Porto are both vibrant, progressive cities with welcoming energy.
Thailand – Warm, affordable, and well-known for being queer-friendly across much of the country.
Costa Rica – Great vibes, beautiful combo of beaches and rainforest, and a world as diverse as our community.
A river cruise with Riverside or Avalon – Upscale, smaller ships, and a great option for couples who want to experience Europe in comfort with fewer crowds and zero judgment.
❤️ Pride Is Year-Round
You don’t have to travel in June to celebrate Pride. Every trip you take as your full self is a kind of protest and celebration. A reminder that you belong here—on this planet, in this moment, and in every beautiful destination you dream of.
If you're looking for someone who gets it, and who will fight to make your trip as comfortable, exciting, and affirming as possible—I’d be honored to help.
📩 Let’s start planning your next great adventure. Whether it’s a honeymoon, anniversary, solo trip, or “just because” moment—you deserve it.
